Shrimp Level (Preschool Beginner)

Beginner level course focusing on the introduction of fundamental aquatic skills including basic rules of safety around water and learning proper breath control under the water (progressing from putting the face in water with mouth and nose submerged, to assisted and voluntary submerging, and finally underwater exploration). Additional skills taught include progressing from entering and exiting the water assisted to unassisted, jumping in the water and returning to the wall assisted to unassisted, combining arm paddling and leg kicking actions on both the front and back with support and then independently, as well as floating on the back with minimal support. Emphasis placed on becoming comfortable in the water quickly and learning the basic swimming skills required to advance toward the Seahorse Level (Preschool Intermediate). Prerequisites: Must be ready to participate independently without parent and have the ability to maintain focus/attention for a 30-minute duration that includes sitting and waiting at times.
